    Acupuncture

People are happy to discover that acupuncture is not painful. In fact, it is a very relaxing experience, and some even fall asleep during treatments. In addition to relief of their symptoms, most people report a deep sense of calm and a heightened sense of well being after their acupuncture treatment. accupuncture

    Some immediate benefits:

    • Deeper breathing
    • Improved sleep
    • Regulated digestion
    • Pain relief
    • Heightened sense of wellbeing

Chinese doctors used empirical research to chart a complex system of meridians through which qi (energy), blood and nutrients flow around the body. Injury, stress and illness occur when there is a disruption in the flow or quality of these substances.

Through the stimulation of specific points on the meridians, acupuncture activates your innate healing response and promotes the smooth flow of these substances that are essential for your health and wellbeing.

Current medical research is just beginning to recognise the many benefits of acupuncture. This exciting marriage of old and new medicine provides you with the best that modern science and traditional wisdom has to offer.

    Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs are a safe and effective way of treating persistent, chronic conditions as well as accelerating the healing process in acute illness.

They are prescribed in tailor-made formulas to suit your individual needs.

The herbal products consist of natural plant parts such as roots, stems, branches, bark, leaves, flowers, fruit or seeds, and natural minerals.

Chinese herbs work synergistically; either enhancing each other's therapeutic qualities or offsetting each other's strong effects. In this way, the results they achieve are safe and virtually free of side effects.

Aja uses high quality, stringently tested Chinese herbs. All formulas are prescribed in granulated or pill form so they are very easy to take.

Aja does not use any endangered plant or animal products.

    Moxibustion

Moxibustion (or moxa) is the dried herb artemisia vulgaris, commonly known in English as Mugwort.

It is a warming treatment that is often used in conjunction with acupuncture to invigorate, nourish, and smooth qi flow in the meridians. Its gentle, penetrating warmth soaks into the muscles, making it particularly good for pain relief.

This treatment is so comforting that it quickly becomes a much-requested favourite!

    Cupping

Cupping is a dispersive therapy where smooth glass cups are used to create suction over a specific area.

This suction draws the irritants and metabolic waste out of sore muscles into the skin, where they can be easily flushed away by the nutrient rich blood supply. It provides very powerful pain relief and the effects are usually immediate. It is particularly good for persistent muscular pain and injury.

    Gua Sha
Gua Sha involves the gentle rubbing of the skin with the smooth edge of a porcelain spoon.

It breaks up stagnation in the superficial blood vessels and connective tissue, regulates blood circulation, clears inflammation, and stimulates the immune response. It is mostly used in cases of muscular pain, myofascial contraction, immune dysfunction, and traumatic injury.

    Lifestyle & Dietary Management

Lifestyle and dietary adjustments are often recommended to aid recovery from illness or to re-establish healthy habits for your general wellbeing. Simple modifications to your dietary and lifestyle habits can greatly enhance treatment outcomes and minimise the total number of treatments needed.

In the Chinese medicine tradition, your diet is paramount to your wellbeing, as this is where you receive the energy you need to live a long and healthy life.

Many conditions can be dramatically improved by simple adjustments to the diet. Emphasis is placed on a balanced diet of fresh, unprocessed, seasonal foods eaten at regular intervals.

Lifestyle adjustments can have profound effects on your level of wellbeing. Appropriate types and amounts of exercise and rest can relieve physical pain and discomfort, as well as assist the release of unhelpful mental and emotional habits.

All potential adjustments will be formulated with you, so it is appropriately tailored to your current lifestyle and interests.
